In his recent article in Inc. Dave Smith picks up on my point that the way you onboard new employees is communicating the culture, modeling the culture, and forming the culture all at the same time.
BRAVE Framework
The more we look at it, the more useful the BRAVE framework gets. (See earlier post for description.) Dave's point is that this is a part of onboarding done better.
Behaviors – The way you and others behave to the new employee communicates, models, and forms culture.
Relate – The way you and others relate to the new employee communicates, models, and forms culture.
Attitudes – The attitudes you and others evidence to the new employee communicates, models, and forms culture.
Values – The values you and others evidence to the new employee communicates, models, and forms culture.
Environment – The environment you and others create the new employee communicates, models, and forms culture.
In some ways, it's the same point – everything communicates 24/7 all the time. This is especially true as new employees are forming their initial impressions.
